Mending broken wings with scattered skin and bone...

    Hello,

I've been spending my free time the past few weeks meeting up with studio drummer, Kevin Garland to work on some drum arrangements to take into the recording studio with us. It's been a pleasant change of pace from all of the work gigs I've been hammering out, the nights off are spent recording, and creating. We've been working on an older tune of mine, the working title "Taking On the World". It's really turning into something above and beyond the original, acoustic take that I've played in the past. Some intense drumming, organ and electric guitar have really made the song rock. "Bad Reputation" is definitely a fun song, but for those of you who have heard some of my other songs, it is sooo out of the box. This new song we've been working on, has more of an upbeat rock/alt feel to it. I dig it and cannot wait to show it to you! I think the next song in line is the latest song I've been performing at shows called "Let's Go To Hell Together"...wooo, it really cooks, and even has a nice little classical guitar interlude stuck into it, which I'm a fan of. Plus it's always nice to get great feedback on a new song, especially when I like it as much as this one. it pushes me to take some extra time to build it up and ready it for the studio. Thanks for the support at the past few events. It's looking to be a busy summer/fall. It's nice to be working steadily on this album, it'll be done as time allows. A few hours per week to track it is better than nothing, and I am sure it's going to be the best stuff I've been able to put down in a long time. See you again soon!

P.S. I've changed my Facebook Artist Page's Domain name to be a little more convenient for promotions. Now it's simply: http://www.facebook.com/bobbydoranmusic

    TUESDAY, MAY 31, 2011
    Hello June

Many, many months, of many, many journal entries. Many, many hours of many, many long drives. Many, many lines of many many verses of many, many songs. Many, many phone calls, many, many, many... I guess I must have watched too many Police Academy movies growing up, with or without Gutenberg.

I made the executive decision to start doing a physical journal/newsletter to bring out to my shows to pass out. This month's first issue is a mere two-sided, black and white paper (it looks a lot nicer in color) containing a handful of articles, thoughts and concerns. It begins with a bit about the May 20th, Soiled Dove Underground concert with Jonathan Tierston & Ten Tiers, then a blurb about my experience at the WKRP radio show, plus my thoughts on one of my favorite concert destinations. Also included in the monthly physical newsletter, the FULL June Calendar and dates. If you see me this month, pick up a FREE copy and stick it onto your fridge.

Why a physical newsletter? It only makes sense, I haven't been spending too much time at my trusty computer with all that has been going on. I try my best to keep things organized and up to date with promotions. Facebook seems to be the number one reason. I'm not a fan of spamming people daily, and I'd rather leave room on FB to be a little more random. I already have to post a new show and music promotions every day, and if you didn't notice by now, my Reverbnation page already posts my shows automatically. Post, after post after post about music ALL the time is seeming to be kind of overkill. I love to write a blog at least every few days, but overposting only leads to people paying less attention.... thus, a physical newsletter with some fun notes about what's going on with my music and shows for you to highlight.

Somewhere down the road, I'd like to be able to begin doing the newsletter in color, adding another couple pages, along with some recommendations on other local artists, music I think you should check out, etc. For now, just pick up a copy at the next show, it was a lot of fun throwing it together!

May 28th's Speedtrap show was a great time, I don't recall ever playing so many songs in a set... especially one's I seriously hadn't played in years. Here's the set list:

    Newsletter - 4/20/2011

I'm super excited for the weekend...

...and for getting my guitar back (she's broken). The Lion's Lair put some great acts together, including Joe Holderby, Mike Wojniak (from Ohio), and Patrick Dethlefs for the Acoustic Showcase this Thursday. I know many of you work in the service industry, but if you happen to have the night off and are looking for something different to do, that's where I'll be! 9PM START! 21+

I can't even tell you how much I've been looking forward to getting back into Dicken's Opera House, it's like a drug, and so are the people of Longmont. If you live in the Boulder, Fort Collins, and Longmont areas, definitely try to make this event on Friday night / 8PM / 21+. I'll be opening for The Long Run, and the Theater is pretty crowded for Friday night's with them. Maybe Jamie will make some more www.bobbydoran.com cherry, lolli-pops again. Maybe Lori will make a few more WWE Bobby D posters?  Can't wait to play!

Last, but not least, I'm back in Monument, CO for the Album Fundraiser! I've heard through the grapevine that there's going to be an excellent turnout at Oakley's. There are no opening acts, just myself and a guitar, playing some new original songs, as well as some old favorites. So this is my first official fundraiser, and I'm not too keen on begging for money, but the tip jar will be there, CDs are for sale, and just having friends out, having a great time is pretty rewarding in itself! All funds raised go directly to Mastering, Packaging, and Bar-Coding the Album, adding to what I might raise with my www.Kickstarter.com project.

PLUS: I will be drawing the name of the first contest winner for a copy of the new album on CD or VINYL! Find out how to enter at the Bobby Doran Music Facebook Page! You may have already won! (I've always wanted to say that :))

HEY! Sedalia friends! I'll be back for Acoustic Thursdays starting April 28th thru Cinco De Mayo. See you soon!

    Update on the New Record

I met up today with a nice young lady by the name of Hannah Feingold of Denver's, "The Namesakes". Hannah is a sax & piano player. We worked for a bit on arranging some horn section parts for a couple new songs over at the performing arts building on the DU campus. Things went extremely well and I'm looking forward to getting all the horn and string arrangements perfected and ready to record. I'm also working a bit with bassist, Charlie Milo (Charlie Milo Trio) and drummer, Chris Combs (Leer 43 / Charlie Milo Trio) on getting the remaining songs arranged for bass and drum tracking. These guys are GOOD, real good :) Can't wait to get the record done! It's going to be great.

I've been trying to coordinate the Album Fundraiser show, with my Kickstarter.com project. Kickstarter is a site for independent artists like myself to add their project details and do a pledge drive. Check out www.Kickstarter.com now, to see what other artists are trying to bring to life. It's a good looking site, and some of the rewards are really creative.

The Album Fundraiser is set for April 23rd in Monument, CO @ Oakley's. There is no cover for this performance, and all donations will go towards getting this record completed, mastered and pressed. It's been a real adventure trying to bring this dream to life, and I'm finally in a great situation, surrounded with people I can trust with my art... and my cash for that matter!

There will be plenty of www.Ustream.com - ing, and anyone can stop by to be a part of the live feed, in the meantime, here are a few songs (working titles) you may hear in bits and pieces in the recording process: "Black Magic Radio", "The Wandering Mind", "Reminiscence", "My Heart Belongs To Someone Else", "Bullet In Motion", "You're So Innocent", "Witching Hour", and "Clean Getaway". Stay tuned to the Bobby Doran Music Facebook page & ReverbNation for daily updates, and the latest promotions!
